It is advised that you keep an eye out for shady characters, make yourself familiar with the people around you, you would do the same thing in a big city, so do the same thing onboard a cruise ship as well. Also, if you can try to avoid traveling alone a cruise ship also, this is just another safety precaution to take that will not set you up to be a victim of a crime.

Just think of being on a cruise ship as walking around a small city on the water. So you might want to leave your expensive personal items at home with you, unless you are responsible enough to not lose them.

Pick pockets also happen on cruise ships, although they are rare. One way to completely avoid being pick pocketed is to where a money pouch, preferably one that hangs around your neck and you are able to tuck into your shirt. If you do not have a money pouch, then men should keep their wallets in their front pockets, if you are women and must have your purse with you, then keep it with you at all times, or store it in a safe if you cabin on the cruise ship offers one.
